Amanda Beavin
Program Manager, Community Data and Research
Amanda Beavin serves as the Program Manager for Community Data and Research at Data You Can Use. With a background in community organizing, geographic information systems (GIS), and sociological research, Amanda’s expertise lies at the intersection of community engagement and geographical research. She has experience building accessible and interactive mapping platforms, designing reports with engaging data visualizations, and constructing community-engagement strategies. Across these various mediums, Amanda aims to help communities leverage data and stories to make decisions, elevate their impact, and advocate for necessary changes.
Amanda holds a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) and a Masters of Arts (MA) in Geography from Syracuse University, where she gained experience in community-engaged research, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and mapping/geospatial analysis. At Syracuse, she worked as a Graduate Assistant for Syracuse Community Geography, a program focused on leveraging geospatial analysis and visualization to aid local community organizations. Her graduate research was participatory and action-oriented, focused on poor housing conditions, code enforcement systems, and tenant organizing. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, she holds Bachelor degrees in Sociology and Geography from Western Kentucky University.
